Golf in Armenia
History of Golf in Armenia.
Golf in Armenia was brought in 2005, when the first Golf Club was built in Yerevan, called “Ararat Golf Club”. It was built by Mr. Vahak Hovnanian (www.vahakni.com). Right now it is the first and still the only Golf Club in the Republic of Armenia. The National Golf Association of Armenia has officially started operating two years ago, and it had been registered by the Government of Republic of Armenia in the beginning of 2013, after the meeting of founders held in November 2012 at “Ararat Golf Club” Yerevan, Armenia.
Right after its foundation the NGAA was registered by the National Olympic Committee of Armenia (www.armnoc.am) as an official member, since Golf had became Olympic type of sport. The NGAA also got authorization from the Ministry of Sport in Armenia (www.minsportyouth.am), as an officially recognized sport organization, representing Golf both in Armenia and around the World.
Currently the National Golf Association of Armenia is a member of the European Golf Association (www.ega-golf.ch) and “R&A” (www.randa.org) based in St. Andrews (The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews). It is also in the process of affiliation to the International Golf Federation (IGF) (www.igfgolf.org).
In addition, Golf as an Olympic Sport is included in Pan Armenian Games (www.panarmeniangames.am), which is planned to take place in August 2015 at the “Ararat Golf Club” in Yerevan, Armenia.
